Scripture of the Day: In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me nver be ashamed: deliver me in they righteousness. Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily; be thou my strong rock, for an house of defense to save me. Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength. Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth. I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the Lord. I will be glad and rejoice in they mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities; And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.
PSALM 31:1-8
A song of praise and joy Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endured to all generations. PSALM 100

STEWARDSHIP MOMENT James 1:5-8
if any of you lack, wisdom let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man supposes that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. James 1:3-4 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. Malachi 3:10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heave and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. (Proverbs 29:27 He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses.

SHIRLEY CAESAR Don’t Drive Your Mama Away
Since the death in 1972 of the original Queen of Gospel, Mahalia Jackson, many music critics have crowned Shirley Caesar the heir apparent to Jackson’s throne. There are others who arguably feel that Albertina Walker, who gave Shirley her big break and opened the door for a dozen other gospel stars, is more deserving and should be crowned the queen. Regardless of that debate, in terms of sheer sales alone, Caesar is by far the most successful and prolific woman in gospel since Jackson. She began her career with Walker’s Caravans, one of the Top Five gospel acts of the 1950s. Caesar then branched out on her own as a solo artist in 1966 with her unique style of delivering songs and sermonettes that made her an immediate crowd pleaser and a consistent record seller. Over the years, she has made songs such as “Don’t Drive Your Mama Away,” “No Charge,””Faded Rose,””Jesus,” and “Hold My Mule” into absolute gospel classics. If gospel aficionados argue over whether Caesar is the queen or not, one thing everyone agrees on is that she is the First Lady of Gospel. Born October `3, 1938, in Durham, North Carolina, her early life was filled with church socials, revival meetings, and the like. Caesar’s mother, Hallie, devoted her life to the church, and her father, Big Jim Caesar, was a tobacco worker who sang with the Just Come Four, an a Capella quartet in the 1930s. She loved to go watch her father sing and by the age of ten, she had begun singing in church. In 1950, tragedy struck when Caesar’s father died of a seizure. For years, she thought her father had died because he had whipped her that day for breaking a streetlight. The day he died was the day Caesar became a woman. The take-charge youngster began to take her singing seriously, especially since her mother, who was a semi-invalid by this point, was left with 13 children to rear alone. Caesar started touring as a gospel soloist with evangelist Leroy Johnson, whom peopled used to call “One Leg Leroy” because he only had one leg. Known as Baby Shirley, Caesar made frequent appearances on Johnson’s television show in Portsmouth, Virginia. Through his contacts, she cut her first record, “I’d Rather Have Jesus,” for Federal Records. “I missed growing up because I took care of my mother from the time I was 12 years old ,” Caesar has said. “When I graduated from high school, I walked across the stage crying because I knew I hadn’t really applied myself. I knew I was an adult now and couldn’t go back to being a little girl.” She immediately enrolled in North Carolina State College, not knowing exactly what her future would hold. During some leisure time circa 1958, Caesar went to see a Caravans concert when they came through town. The tale goes that one of the members was absent and Caesar went up to Albertina Walker and told her that she knew all the song parts and could sing. It. Although Walker smiled, she said no, and Caesar persisted until Walker gave in and allowed Caesar to sing. Legend has it that Caesar sang the Caravans songs better than they did and Walker asked her to join the group. She dropped out of college and went on the road with America’ premier female group. By 1969, Caesar had signed to Scepter Record’s Hob gospel imprint. Scepter was the company that produced hits of pop acts such as Dionne Warwick, the Shirelles, and Chuck Jackson. Caesar became the biggest act on Hob and in 1969 hit pay dirt with the sermonette don’t “Drive Your Mama Away.” In the song, the mother raises two sons. The good son grows up to become a wealthy doctor. The bad son runs off and gets caught up in street life. When the mother grows old she moves in with here wealthy son, but he and his wife turn against her because she doesn’t speak good English and doesn’t fit in with their middle-class friends. They put her out, and the bad son shows up to say that she can come live with him even though he eats beans out of can and doesn’t make much money. Caesar preaches the story over a roaring crowd for a good five minutes before she actually begins singing. It’s a song in the great tradition of Caesar’s vocal hero, Edna Gallmon Cooke, who was the first gospel singer to popularize sermonettes in the 1950s. The song went on to become her first million-seller. In 1971, Caesar won her first Grammy award for “Put Your Hand in the Hand of the Man from Galilee.” As Caesar’s name began to grow beyond the gospel field via profiles in Ebony magazine and the like, along came offers to sing pop music, to which she’d always quip, “I would sing rock and roll if you let me rock for Jesus and roll for God.” UNCLOUDDY DAY HE GOSPEL MUSIC ENCYCLOPEDIA by Bil Carpenter Real cool man, great book.
